John Lezana started playing drums at the age of 17 back in 1987 and after 3 months formed a band playing the usual rock covers that everyone tries ,and for the next 6 or 7 years teaching himself by listening to records(yes

At this stage John had joined another band playing rock and blues covers and playing in pubs and clubs around the south of England. It was around this time John had a rude awakening by going to a Lloyd Ryan drum clinic at his local music shop and being floored by this guys all round musicianship on the drum kit and realising how little John new about technique, reading, rudiments and all things drum related. He decided to enrol on a part time intermediate course in 1995 at the Musicians Institute in London.
This is where he started to develop as a drummer and musician and so impressed with the institute decided to enrol again at the Musicians Institute in London in 1998 on the one year diploma where he was taught by the legendary Thomas Lang who had a huge influence on Johns drumming, specifically relating to all aspects of drumming and music in general. During this year joined a heavy metal band outside the institute gigging in the south of England.
John was also in an originals pop rock band within the institute, gigging in and around London including the famous jazz cafe in Camden town.
It was this band which also received band of the year on completion of the diploma course. For the next few years John joined another band who played psychedelic instrumental space rock type music playing in and around Southampton in pubs, clubs and some free festivals around the Southampton area of Hampshire.
In 2006 John decided to further his drumming knowledge by enrolling on the higher Diploma course at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford Surrey.
